Breast Pathology

Richard J. Cote, MD, FRCPath, FCAP
Dr. Richard J. Cote is the Edward Mallinckrodt Professor and Chair of the Department of Pathology and Immunology at Washington University School of Medicine. He attended medical school at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and performed a research fellowship in tumor immunology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC). He did his residency training in pathology at Cornell/New York Hospital and was a fellow and chief fellow in the oncologic surgical pathology program at MSKCC. He was on the faculty at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine and was chair of pathology at the University of Miami prior to arriving at Washington University. He is an expert on molecular pathways of tumor progression and response to therapy, and his work has resulted in clinical translation through improved molecular pathologic classification of tumors and use of novel biomarkers for prognosis. Similarly, his contribution to cancer metastasis research through analysis of lymph node and bone marrow occult metastases and the development of microfilter technology for circulating tumor cell (CTC) capture and characterization has led to increasing incorporation of these occult tumor cells as biomarkers in routine clinical practice for improved cancer patient management. He is a member of the breast and GU pathology services in the department.

Chieh-Yu Lin, MD, PhD
Dr. Chieh-Yu Lin graduated with an MD from the National Taiwan University College of Medicine in Taipei, Taiwan, and then received PhD degree in Cancer Biology at Stanford University. Dr. Lin completed anatomic pathology residency, breast pathology fellowship, and molecular genetic pathology fellowship, all at Stanford University. Currently, Dr. Lin is an Assistant Professor with the Department of Pathology & Immunology at the Washington University School of Medicine. Dr. Lin has expertise in pre-invasive and high-risk breast lesions and molecular testing for breast cancer and has made many contributions to breast pathology education and academia through USCAP.
