Highlights

Head and Neck Pathology is one of the oldest subspecialty services in the Department. It was truly solidified as an independent service with subspecialized faculty under the leadership of Dr. Samir El-Mofty, DMD, PhD, who came to the Medical School in the early 1990s after the closure of Washington University’s School of Dental Medicine where he was Professor and Chair of the Department of Pathology. During his time as Section Head, he also served as President of the North American Society of Head and Neck Pathology. Upon his retirement, Rebecca Chernock, MD, took over as Section Head in 2018. She also served as Vice-President (2018-2020) and then President (2020-2022) of the North American Society of Head and Neck Pathology, having previously been the Treasurer from 2012-2018.
