Genitourinary Pathology (GU) Subspecialty

Overview

Section Head: Joseph P. Gaut, MD, PhD (Interim)

The section of Genitourinary Pathology provides pathology services for the patients of Barnes-Jewish Hospital (BJH), Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital (BJWCH), and Memorial Hospitals Belleville and Shiloh. In addition, the service receives an extensive number of cases for consult from other institutions, which rely on the team’s broad expertise. The type of patient material received by the genitourinary service includes biopsy and resection specimens from the kidney, adrenal, prostate, urinary bladder, urethra, ureters, penis, and testis. The high volume of cases and the variety of specimens provides ample opportunities for resident and fellow education and research.
